RICHARD SHERMAN and pianist GENADI ZAGOR, a native of Russia and prizewinner of several international competitions will perform works by Ralph Vaughn Williams, William Mathias and Frederick Delius

Richard Sherman, flute - Active as a soloist, orchestral musician, and recitalist, Richard is a dynamic performer of outstanding dramatic power. He received a bachelor of music degree from the Eastman School of Music, a master of music degree from Northwestern University, and had postgraduate study at the Royal College of Music in London.

      Sherman is former principal flute with the Rochester (New York) Philharmonic Orchestra, and principal flute with the Chautauqua (New York) Symphony Orchestra and the Lansing Symphony Orchestra. He has given performances with the Chicago Symphony, the English Chamber Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony and the Toronto Symphony. He has performed as a soloist with the Columbus Symphony, the Rochester Philharmonic, Youngstown Symphony, Lansing Symphony, and Chautauqua Symphony, among others.

Richard is the recipient of an ITT International Fellowship, and the Henri Cohn Memorial Prize at Tanglewood for most outstanding fellowship student. He has given master classes throughout the country, including Eastman School of Music, Northwestern University, Louisiana State University, Ohio State University, Arizona State University, Brigham Young University, and Youngstown State University. He has given master classes/recitals at the Sydney Conservatory in Sydney, Australia, and at the Queensland Conservatory in Brisbane, Australia.

      His recordings with pianist Ralph Votapek, Flute Sonatas and American Landscape, are released on Summit Records. The French Album, with pianist Kimberly Schmidt, was released in January 2006 to critical acclaim. Fanfare's Jerry Dubin writes: "I cannot imagine any of this music being more beautifully or lovingly played than it is here..." Sherman's most recent album, French Album II, Homage to Pedagogy, with pianist Ralph Votapek, was released on the Blue Griffin Recording label in 2012.

Genadi Zagor Piano, A native of Russia, Genadi graduated from Krasnodar's Rimsky-Korsakov College of Music and went on to study at the Moscow State Conservatory with Mikhail Mezhlumov, one of Russia's leading teachers. He later moved to Israel where he served as an assistant to Professor Alexander Tamir at the Jerusalem Rubin Academy of Music and Dance.

      Zagor holds prizes from the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Competition, the Leeds International Pianoforte competition, the Hamamatsu International Piano Competition, the Francois Shapira Music Competition, and was a recipient of the America-Israel Cultural Foundation Scholarship for outstanding artists. After winning the prestigious National Piano Competition in Tel-Aviv, he appeared in a special recital at the Presidential Palace for Ezer Weizman.

     Zagor frequently appears on Israeli National Television and Radio. He has performed to critical acclaim in recital and orchestral appearances around the world with the Moscow State Symphony, Israel Philharmonic, Jerusalem Symphony, Gotham City, Northbrook Symphony, South Bend Symphony, Green Bay Symphony, and Mariinsky Theatre orchestras. Throughout his career, he has performed on concert stages in Russia, Israel, Japan, England, Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia and the U.S.

     Zagor moved to the United States in 2000 and studied piano at Indiana University South Bend, where he served as adjunct lecturer in piano upon his graduation. He earned his Master of Music degree in piano performance from Michigan State University, where he is also completing a Doctor of Musical Arts under Deborah Moriarty. Zagor has won top prizes from the World Piano Competition, San Antonio International Piano Competition, and the Grand Prize at the D?Angelo Young Artists Competition. Recent solo performances were at the Irving S. Gilmore International Keyboard Festival in Kalamazoo as a part of the "World Rising Stars" series, and the Toradze Piano Studio Rachmaninoff Marathon.

     For the past six years, Zagor served on the faculty of the University of Northern Iowa?s School of Music. As an adjudicator, he served on the panel of the Iowa Music Teachers Piano Association and the Music Teachers National Association conferences performing and presenting new works by Iowa composers. In 2015 he joined the faculty of Michigan State University as instructor of piano.
